Mabel named the violence against women and worked to protect the generations who would come after her.

More than a century later, I find myself carrying that same thread forward through another layer—protecting women, protecting Nature, and creating sanctuary for the generations still to come.

I come from a lineage of strong, independent, sovereign women.

Each expressed that sovereignty within the possibilities—and the limitations—of her time.

What could not always be spoken lived on through resilience, care, and the quiet courage to continue.

I do not carry their strength so that I may endure the same conditions.

My work is to help build the world that women and Nature deserve.

A world where service is no longer measured by sacrifice, but expressed through stewardship, sanctuary, and care.

This is the deeper thread beneath my earlier GAIANROSE writing, From Patriarchy to the Re-Rising of the Feminine.

The history of patriarchy is also a history of separation: the separation of women from power, humanity from Nature, healing from the Earth, and the feminine from her own authority.

The same systems of domination, control, extraction, and silencing have touched both women and the natural world.

Mabel named one part of the wound.

My work carries the thread forward into another layer.

Women and Nature are not separate stories.

The forms change, but the deeper thread remains.

Protection became a living practice.

Under Venus, Regulus, and the South Node in Virgo, I see an ancient feminine inheritance returning—not to be repeated, but evolved.

Through the work of the hands:

Writing.
Healing.
Protecting.
Nourishing.
Mother Earth.
Sacred Sisterhood.

She protected women she would never meet.

More than a century later, I became one of those women.

Her work became part of the ground beneath the generations who followed.

And now, I carry the thread forward—for women, for wildlife, and for my Self.

Perhaps this is the Re-Rising of the Feminine:

not a return to what was,

but the remembrance of what was never truly lost.

The wild feminine as teacher—not metaphor, but living practice.

Same thread. Different layer.
Across the Atlantic. Across generations.

AUTHOR’S NOTE

Mabel Sharman Crawford was my great-aunt, a nineteenth-century writer and advocate for women. In 1863, she wrote an essay on the maltreatment of wives, naming the violence women endured and the laws and social structures that failed to protect them. Thirty years later, in 1893, her work was published in The Westminster Review.

She protected women she would never meet.

More than a century later, I became one of those women.

The protections Mabel worked toward became part of the world I inherited—and were there for me when I, too, needed them.

Her work reached across generations and, the Atlantic — through her great-niece, the thread continues to evolve.

Today, I carry it forward through my own work in ecofeminism, healing, and sanctuary—protecting women and the natural world, now and for generations to come.
